The San Ginés bookshop is one of the oldest in Spain - it’s been going in some shape or form since the mid-17th century - and specialises in second-hand and antique books. These days, you can buy postcards, guidebooks and prints of old Madrid too. #Madrid #madriddelosaustrias #madridcastizo #madridmemola #madridmemata #igersmadrid #bookshop #bookshopsofinstagram #librerias
The remodelling work is nearing completion at the Casa de la Carnicería on the Plaza Mayor to turn it into a hotel that is due to open in April - the first on Madrid’s historic square. There was talk that it was going to be a Parador for a while, which would have been a good fit, but in the end the Pestana group got it and it’s going to be the @pestanaplazamayormadrid The building dates back to the 17th century and some original features, such as the staircases, have survived. It’s going to have a pool on the roof apparently - god knows how they got planning permission for that! Whatever, it promises to be quite something and what a fabulous location. #Madrid #plazamayormadrid #madriddelosaustrias #madridcastizo #newhotel #designhotel #madridmemola #madridmemata #igersmadrid #hotelesmadrid #pestanahotels
This pretty shop @cocolmadrid in Plaza de la Paja took over an old upholsterer’s and now stocks gorgeous crockery, hats, espadrilles, bags, baskets and more made by artisan producers in Spain #madrid #madriddelosaustrias #lalatinamadrid #madridspain #madridmemata #madridmemola #igersmadrid #tiendasconencanto #madridshopping
The Plaza de la Paja, every inch of which is steeped in history - going back 1,000 years. Now it’s a lovely spot for a drink, but in the 11th century, a boy called Isidro, who would become Madrid’s patron saint, worked for the wealthy Vargas family, who lived on the square. When Ferdinand and Isabella came to Madrid with their sights set on the Spanish throne, this is where they took up residence. At the top of the square is the 16th-century Capilla del Obispo, the most important Renaissance monument in Madrid. And there’s a lot more, but, as I said, it’s a really nice place to meet for a beer or lunch and still somehow be there at midnight. #madriddelosaustrias #madridmedieval #madrid #madridmemata #igersmadrid #madridmemola #madridcastizo #spain #sanisidro
Thank goodness @vivamadridtaberna has come back to life - just a bit shinier, with better tapas and great cocktails - after being taken over by @diegocabrerabar #vivamadrid #vivamadridtaberna #madrid #barriodelasletras #barriodelasletrasmadrid #tapasbar #madridmemola #madridmemata #igersmadrid #tabernasdemadrid #tabernascentenarias #tabernascentenariasdemadrid
The Room Mate Alicia Hotel, on the corner of Plaza Santa Ana, was originally an industrial building, designed by Modesto López Otero at the beginning of the 20th century. #barriodelasletras #madrid #roommatehoteles #roommatealicia #igersmadrid #madridmemola #madridmemata #designhotel #boutiquehotel
