Saborea España – Tasting Spain

Saborea España, or Tasting Spain, is a new initiative to make it easier for people visiting the country to sample the best gastronomic experiences in the different regions. The site features gourmet packages all over Spain, usually including accommodation plus a meal or two or a visit to a winery or specialist producer. So far, 22 destinations have joined the scheme, with more getting on board soon.
While some are obvious choices, such as San Sebastián or Seville, others are well known as foodie destinations in Spain, but maybe not so familiar to foreign visitors – Gijón in Asturias, for example, or Cambrils in Tarragona.
You just choose where you want to go and when, and book online. In Córdoba, for example, you could book one of the Gastronomic Breaks, such as the one that includes a meal in a traditional restaurant, either an olive oil or organic wine tasting session, and one night in the Hotel Hacienda Posada de Vallina near the Mezquita. Prices vary according to dates, but start at €72 per person.
For around the same price in Valencia, you get one night’s accommodation in the four-star Barceló Valencia, and a trip to La Albufera, the saltwater lake south of the city where rice is grown. After a little jaunt on a boat, you sit down to a paella and other traditional dishes.
In Vinarós in Castellón, packages on offer include a visit to the Museo Natural de Olivos Milenarios, where some of the olive trees date back more than 1,000 years, a look at how anchovies are processed and canned, or a trip focused on the local speciality langostinos (not langoustines, incidentally, but a particularly tasty variety of prawn).

In Gijón you can learn all about cider, while in Zaragoza you can go on a ‘chocotour’, visiting a variety of chocolate and cake shops and cafés.

Sounds quite tempting to me…
