The Balearic island of Menorca is one of the lowest-risk destinations in Spain for holidaying this summer, according to the latest report by the Spain Ministry of Health (with data analysis up to May 26th). The figures show that Menorca has a very low level of both Covid cases and risk of transmission, and the tourist board is optimistic about the island’s chances of being included on the green list update by the United Kingdom government later this week.
As of 31st of May, Menorca’s cumulative Covid rate is 8.4 cases per 100.000 habitants over the last seven days and 17.5 over the last 14 days. The Balearic Islands, together with Valencia, are the only Spanish regions with a 14-day incidence rate below 50 (the average for Spain is more than 100 cases per 100.000 habitants).
The vaccination programme has also ramped up in Menorca with 41.8% of the population having received at least one dose of the vaccine and 17.7% now fully vaccinated. More than 70% of people between the ages of 50 and 69 have already received at least one dose of the vaccine, and people above the age of 40 are now being invited to book a vaccine. Furthermore, this week the Balearic archipelago will receive their largest batch of vaccines – 116,390 doses, of which 11,450 correspond to Menorca, which will speed up the vaccination rollout.
